Just another blog

They say the first few sentences of your writing are supposed to be what grabs your reader and catches them; keeping their interest. At least, that’s what I learned from the movie I watched last week “Alex & Emma.” Given that I have already used up those first few sentence I will now give up on keeping your interest. However, I will say that I did have a very enjoyable weekend. Now you may continue reading what my be to you very uninteresting, or you may stop altogether.

Saturday I was finally allowed to sleep in. This does not, however, imply that I actually did. Nope, Not at all. I awoke shortly before 7 am. The whole wall beside my bed is windows, and though the curtains were closed the light was still able to come into my room. Despite putting the covers over my head I was not able to fall back asleep and finally gave up at 10 am (it was a long fight!). Even though I didn’t get the desired sleep, I still enjoyed a relaxing morning and early afternoon before I made my way over to the school to check email, eat dinner and take part in the evenings activities.

We played a movie making game. We were given two props, a product to advertise and a quote…all of which had to be used at some point in our movie. After tossing around ideas we decided to call our movie “The Ring” (remake) since one of our props was an old beat up phone. As the movie goes each scene shows someone answering the same phone and every time something horrible happens to them. It is somewhat of a horror/ comedy film because the second to last scene shows one of the guys sitting in his room playing with the phone as if it was his “mixer” making music…all the horrible things were merely coincidental, he was just accidentally calling random people. Our advertisement was “Max Multi-Purpose Soap” Which I starred in giving a demonstration on how it can be used to clean your nose. Really I just sat there blowing bubbles out my nose! Which seemed to be quite the hit among both staff and students.

After the activity ended at 10 pm I rounded up the Jr. High Girls and we headed over to Sandes for some Peanut Butter Pie (its to die for…seriously) and a sleepover. Morning came early along with a quick pancake breakfast before shuffling the girls out the door to get back to school in time to be ready for church. After lunch I took the 7th and 8th grade rock climbing which everyone seemed to enjoy, though it was a bit chilly in the shade and some complained of their hands being too cold to climb any higher….maybe it was just an excuse?

All in all, it was a good weekend, though not much of a break and definitely not enough sleep. I’m still so thankful to be in the country and working with these kids. Though, about the time I want to check my email you probably won’t find me saying such things.

India/ Pakistan Night at School Posted by Picasa

I am alive

I realize that most of the people that read this have probably already gotten my mass email informing you of my experience of the earth quake. So I will spare you the details. If you didn't get it, and would like to, just email me:o)

***************

The evening of the earthquake we had a school-wide event. An India/Pakistan Night. It was loads of fun. There was dancing, henna, good food, games, and even a Bollywood movie to finish off the night.

***************

The Guys Staff challenged the High Schools Boys to a Basketball game. I don't remember the score....but it was a lot to a little. You can guess who won.

***************

Mid - Term Break started (and ended). I spent half the time with my relations. The other half I spent hanging out with people here at school....watching movies. And, we went in to the military hospital to visit the patients there.

I also got to hear a guy speak at the church on 1 Cor. 13. It was good, though very convicting. I'm not a fan of conviction.

Went to a Charity Rugby Match. That was fun. Though, I must say some people were quite silly playing when they were fasting....or with a hurt knee!

***************

This weekend I hope to have the Jr. High Girls over for a sleep over, and then maybe take some of the kids rock climbing.

***************

Sorry this is so random. My battery on my computer is about to die and I think I left the adapter for it in my room.

What to do....

October break is next week. I'm torn. What to do? I have found information about a "Yak Safari" which I think would be super cool to do. How many people can say they rode a Yak for 5 days? This trip would also include a trip to the Chinese border...another dream of mine. Sigh.

***********

I cut off all my nice long finger nails yesterday. I agree with my friend Jess - Long finger nails are the sign of a lazy woman! You can't do anything with them, except scratch your head!

***********

The Guys Staff have now formed a Basketball team and will challenge the Boys High School team to a game on Thursday. The Staff are actually quite good, though their shooting needs some work. Makes me feel better about my basketball skills - or lack of.

Tomorrow we might go climb a mountain. I'm excited. I will post pictures if all goes well.

gossip? or not?

So, yesterday at my lunch table we got onto a debate about gossip. Whats the line between gossip and telling a trusting person of your struggle with your feelings towards someone. Being a table full of girls all living in close quarters with each other this discussion brought about a lot of....emotions. The talk ended when one girl burst into tears because she felt like she couldn't even share her feelings because she was afraid of being told she was gossiping.

After about 15 minutes of one on one time with her, and a little bit of prayer the tears stopped and she went on with her day. But, as a result my heart is burdened for her and also for the whole topic.

So, Whats the difference. I'd appreciate your comments on this one.

We (the girls staff basketball team) lost our game against the high school girls last night. I will say this though, I wasn't as humiliated as I thought I would be. We have challenged the girls to another game in three weeks. Hopefully we will kick their little butts then.

Tomorrow night I'm having a Dance Dance Revolution Party, followed by a leopard hunt. Should be good fun.

More Basketball

Yesterday our guys basketball team kicked a little bootie against some army college team. The final score was 61-20.

Tonight is the Girls Staff versus the High School Girls Basketball Team. "God, I just want one moment of glory, just one!"...."oh, and can it please be on camera?"

This past weekend I enjoyed times at the pool with the high school kids. And a nice evening of ice cream at the Hot Spot.

Thats all for now.
